It’s January, and it is a natural time to think about change. Many people use the new year as an occasion to try to improve something about their lives. Maybe you’re among them. If so, that’s great. I hope you succeed!
As you make your new beginning, it’ll help to consider the most important thing about the original one, summarized in the Bible’s first four words:
“In the beginning God…”
For us, this idea may not seem so profound. Yet, in the ancient world, it was huge. At the very beginning, there was only God.
This would become the basis of ancient Israel’s most important life principle. Jesus called it the first and great commandment, and it still holds for us today.
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
As you move toward your better life this year, I encourage you to put God at the very center of it and keep him there. That’s really the only way to succeed.
